Frequently asked questions
What topics are covered in MATH 203 at Concordia?
MATH 203 (Differential & Integral Calculus I) covers limits, continuity, derivatives, and applications like optimization, curve sketching, related rates, and L’Hôpital’s Rule. You’ll also work with exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions using Thomas’ Calculus: Early Transcendentals.
How can Grade Grinders help me succeed in MATH 203?
We offer self-paced tutorials, pre-recorded crash courses, and downloadable booklets and mock exams that are 100% tailored to MATH 203. Our resources break down tough concepts like the chain rule, implicit differentiation, and optimization using Concordia-style problem walkthroughs.
Is MATH 203 hard? What do students struggle with most?
Yes. Especially if it’s your first time learning calculus. Students often struggle with the speed of the course and topics like L’Hôpital’s Rule, applied optimization, and trig derivatives. That’s why our pre-recorded sessions focus on the exact problems that tend to appear on midterms and finals.
What kind of practice does Grade Grinders offer for MATH 203?
Our MATH 203 package includes mock exams based on real past exams, step-by-step video tutorials, and problem sets modeled after real Concordia midterms and finals. Everything is on-demand, so you can study anytime, at your own pace.
Do I need MATH 201 before taking MATH 203?
Yes. MATH 201 (Functions and Trigonometry) or an equivalent course is required. If it’s been a while since you’ve done high school math or you didn’t take MATH 201, we strongly recommend taking it first. A qualifying pre-test is even available on Moodle to help you decide.
Is there extra help available outside of class?
Absolutely. Grade Grinders students get Discord access to ask questions between sessions and get quick replies from Claudia, our expert instructor, who really knows the MATH 203 material.
How is MATH 203 graded?
Your grade will be the better of these two schemes:
- Option A: 10% assignments, 30% midterm, 60% final
- Option B: 10% assignments, 10% midterm, 80% final
There is no option to skip the midterm entirely.
What’s the format of the MATH 203 midterm and final exam?
The midterm is 1.5 hours long, held in late October, and covers material from Weeks 1–6. The final exam is 3 hours long and cumulative, including both computational and conceptual calculus problems.
Do I need WeBWorK or MyLabMath for MATH 203?
Yes. Assignments are submitted through WeBWorK, and MyLabMath is used for textbook access, video lessons, and extra practice. Both platforms are required for effective study and submission.
